Lehigh County, PA – A bridge’s super-structure and certain piers needed to be removed on this bridge replacement project. The purpose of our grouting program was to improve the existing rock conditions beneath piers 1 and 2. This replacement project required a complete removal and replacement of the bridge’s super-structure, (bridge deck, piers and abutments). At the time of proposal it was possible that some piers may remain in place. Limited mobility displacement grouting was the method chosen to fill the voids and fractures to solidify and stabilize the rock mass beneath the compromised piers. We proposed to inject 48 total grout injection locations (14 primary and 10 secondary), and drill 1,920 linear feet under each pier. We anticipated working 2-3 weeks while employing two grout crews.
Upon completion we drilled a total of 3,344 linear feet, injected 48 grout locations with 65 cubic yards of grout. The project was completed in 3 weeks using 1 grout crew.
