Lancaster County, PA – The purpose of the grouting program was to mitigate future sinkhole activity and reduce the risk of liquefaction of the subsoils below the proposed Royal Farms main building and gas canopy structures. The proposed construction consisted of a single-story, 5,375 square feet Royal Farms building, car wash, and gas canopy with paved driveways and parking.
Considering the soil conditions and the underlying limestone bedrock, subsurface solution channels (sinkhole activity) were expected within the building footprints; which is typical for this region. Additionally, the granular nature of the loose to very loose sands overlying the bedrock presented a risk for soil liquefaction. Considering the risk of Karst (sinkhole) activity and the potential for liquefaction, compaction grouting was recommended to stabilize the soil for foundation support of the main building and a portion of the gas canopy.
We completed the project injecting grout into 57 hole locations and drilling 1,324 linear feet. We used 228 cubic yards of grout and employed 1 drill and 1 grout crew.
