Apartment Building: Compaction Grouting

Allentown, PA – The purpose of this grouting program was to improve soil below proposed columns to support a new multi-story apartment building. The engineer recommended using the processes of compaction grouting and soil exchange. The soil exchange process was designed in such a way to allow for the depth of the exchange to be equal to the width of the footing. We studied ground surface elevations and proposed bottom of soil exchange elevations for each column location. We based our grouting plan on this and other information provided. The plan proposed to inject grout into 114 primary and 10 secondary locations. We estimated the injection of 299 cubic yards of grout, and drill depths of 3,100 linear feet to be complete in 10 to 12 working days.

Upon project completion, we injected a total of 140 cubic yards of grout and drilled 3,755 linear feet. We injected grout into 118 total hole locations and completed the project in the quoted time frame.
